Laurel,
I would imagine that the CMOS battery is dead. It is the small battery
on the motherboard (usually CR2032). Since the configuration is pretty much
lost, I don't believe that your BIOS will be affected. Change it and then
boot the computer off of the floppy disk. If you don't have a bootable
floppy, you can download one (from a friends computer) at www.bootdisk.com
on save it to a floppy.
