Thank you for your suggestions. The monitor is being recognized correctly
as it shows as Compaq FS7600 in both device manager and under display in
settings. It shows a generic graphic controller as pointed out by David
Gillette and Venkat Viswanathan.

Also, Tracy suggested downloading Everest Home. The report says we have
Intel Pentium II, 350 MHz, IBM 686229U, BIOS type=IBM (02/08/99) plus 37 1/2
more pages of Greek. The problems & suggestions I've found so far on the
printout are: AGP is disabled. This may cause performance penalty. AGP
aperture size is more than 1/2 of the memory size. This may cause
performance penalty. (AGP Version=1.00; AGP Status=disabled; AGP Device=IBM
Integrated S3 Trio3D; AGP Aperture Size=64 MB; Supported AGP Speeds=1x, 2x;
Fast-Write=not supported and Side Band Addressing=Supported, Disabled). It
also says System & Video BIOS are more than 2 years old and asks if we are
looking for an upgrade.

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
Karen Halder
PS - What is aperture?

once you remove it from device manager and reboot windows will automatically
detect the monitor and ask you for the drivers or will load them from memory
if they are there. if you are asked for the drivers you may need your
windsows 98 cd.
