The sinking of democracy and democratic principles in to a reflecting
pool in the Gambia dramatizes the sinking of the rational mind of Yaya
Jammeh in to a reflecting pool, that has failed to connect with a form of
reality outside in to the nothingness within. The democracy claimed by
Jammeh and his government is very contradictory to democratic norms.A true
democracy is one that stems from not only being a government of the people
for the people, but also a government that recognizes and encourages the
rule of law, respect fundamental human rights and respects constitutional
rights of all citizens.
Since the Military coup of July 22nd 1994,Gambians experience nothing
other than being exposed to an insidious degradation imposed upon all
citizens.A degradation ranging from t
orture and summary executions to
corruption, lack of transparency and a complete economic catatrophy of our
beloved country.
We all have to understand that in the civilize world of today, such
governments shall never be let to prevail. It is about high time for us to
wake up as Gambians and change the situation back home. Dialogue will never
change situations back home. A very strong Gambian opposition overseas
ready to sacrifice for the Nation is the only means to solve the current
situation.
