Well Phil,
For me, personally, this book wasn’t an earth shaking surprise because I
already knew a lot of what he was saying. He just did a good job of
clarifying and compartmentalizing things in a really positive way that
encouraged me to keep on keeping on. I can tell you, however, that for
the few people at our church that have taken the challenge of reading the
book seriously, it has had a tramendous impact. One single mother is
using it as devotions and a time for discussion with her teenage son to
help both of them see better how to live the Christian life. One woman,
who works for the hospital has begun taking church much more seriously
and is becoming much more committed in her walk with the Lord and her
desire to make things happen for Him. Another woman, who is extremely
shy, is, right now, on a short term mission trip in Lundon witnessing to
the Muslem population there. Finally, a man who is a plant manager said,
and I quote, "for me, this book has raised the bar of what it means to be
a Christian. Being a Christian is much more than I thought." Greg’s
response to that has been, "the bar was always there, but now you know
about it." This man, by the way, has probably grown the most and what God
is doing through him is really something. He is now working with the
second woman that I mentioned, who works at the hospital, to develop a
comprehensive health reward plan for his workers. He is working with
another woman at our church who works with the local prison to find job
placement for some of the prisoners. He is just so grateful to finally
have it spelled out for him, in a way that he can understand, that
Christianity isn’t just going to church and sitting in the pew. They’re
all seeing more clearly that God is interested in all of their lives, not
jusdt part of it. For some reason, for these people, the book just put
things in place for them. It’s not for everybody. What tool or ministry
is? I’m just glad for another avenue to motivate His saints.
Kathy
