Adults With Disabilities Face Major Cost Barriers in Health Care More than a
third of non-elderly persons with disabilities delay care, skip medication,
or go without needed equipment because of lack of money and limits on
insurance coverage, according to a recent study from the Kaiser Family
Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing analysis of health care
issues. People who had no insurance faced the greatest hardships, but even
those with Medicare (but without supplemental
insurance) had difficulty accessing care: 50% said they spent less on basic
needs such as food or health care to pay for medicine and needed equipment.
