Does anyone have any of the very early episodes of the Loan Ranger when the
role was played by Earl Prayger or something like that.  The story I heard
was that shortly after the series premiered in 1933, he was killed in an
automobile accident, but they didn't think the listening audience would
accept that the Loan Ranger was dead.  So for several shows, they portrayed
him as having been very seriously wounded and all you heard was heavy
breathing while they gradually introduced Brace Beamer into the role.
