Ghana Airways Passengers Block Off Kotoka Airport

Angry passengers of a Ghana Airways flight originally bound for Rome on Thurday set up barricades blocking off the Kotoka International Airport to vehicle users. The passengers were protesting at their flight’s cancellation and postponement to a departure time not made clear to them by the airline's management.

They told JOY FM that the airline gave them little information about their rescheduled flight and also refused to provide them with food to last them their waitng period. Some of the passengers also noted that they will loose their jobs as a result of the delayed flight and Ghana Airways has refused to send faxes to their work places. Such was the tension that persons who tried to remove the barricades in order to make way for their cars incurred the wrath of the passengers.

They finally remained calm after pleas from the Airport area Police Commander and the Director of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Boachie who assured them that the problem was being resolved. Ghana Airways’ Head of Public Affars Bannerman Bruce told JOY FM that the the flight’s cancellation was due to a technical fault with the scheduled flight.

However, a private arline was expected at the airport at 6pm local time on Friday to fly the passengers to their destination, Rome. From all indications, compensation for time lost and inconvenience caused, was not part of the airline’s vocabulary.
