Why not disconnect the CD-ROM DRIVE to see your system runs normally?

The first thing I would try is to reseat your powersupply, and ribbon cables, to the problem drives. If any of them look like they are falling apart, or won't snug up, then replace them. If you still have problems, then I would suspect the Power Supply first. This type of behavior is typical, of the start of a failing ATX power supply. Rode The NOSPIN Group

Hi, I've got a strange problem that I've never run into before. My system is Pentium II, Win98, 384MB ram. Over the past few months, I start to hear the "rattle" that indicates the CD drive is working (light on too) and then the hard drive light comes on and the cursor indicates it's busy, so no other program will work. Originally this happened rarely, but now it's more usual than not. When it happens is totally unpredictable as far as I can see.
