  I believe XP will certainly allow you to assign any arbitrary drive letter
to this device, but:

(a) It won't travel with it; the setting in XP will apply only on that
machine.

(b) Win98SE supports assignment of drive letters for CD/DVD and other
"removable storage" drives, but not for fixed hard drives.  I'm not sure
which it will see this device as -- if the former, you're okay.
