The vs-3 chip for the 2000  does read  menu setting number as well as the
menu number, but there is no indication of what the default setting was.
The stuff from  icanworkthisthing.com is a great help.   Also don't be
afraid to reset  the rig when you get things screwed up.     The mcp-2000
free program from kenwood allows  you to save settings  and retrieve them
later.   There is some logical grouping of  the multitude of buttons,  so it
is not  as daunting as  you might first think.
