A good binding cutter is expensive.  Most copy centers i.e. Alpha Graphics, etc. have industrial grade machines.  I have had good luck with a local company, by cutting off the book covers with a razor and then asking them to "debind" the book. (The book covers are thick and some companies will not risk damaging their machines.)   I get it done for free.  I do a lot of textbooks.

You can sometimes even find them on ebay.  If you go that route you may
need to have the blade sharpened.
