I have exactly the same effect if I take my carbs too low. I'm normally
relaxed like you, but I become irritable and short-tempered. Within half
an hour of eating paleo carbs, I'm calm again.

I tried light boxes to no real effect. Exposure to natural light is much
better, but on a temperate island, the light levels are variable in the
Winter. Seasonal Affective Disorder is said to be more to do with the
duration rather than the intensity of light, but that doesn't explain why
light boxes failed in my case. Dietary management is much more effective.
A paradox I've never managed to explain is that I really dislike the hot,
sunny days which should help me. I love to cycle out to meet the dawn, or
watch sunsets, but the only other way I like to view our star is when
decoratively obscured by clouds ;-)
I've often wondered why some people adore the sun, and others, like me,
long for sea mists, hail, storms and gales.
I'm drifting (you can tell it's Summer on my side of the globe).
Cheers,
Persephone
