Re statins:

The interview voice-over mentioned his approach was
considered to be controversial, but you can't help but
wonder how much this guy is getting from the drug
companies to scare people into running to their dr.,
waving his book, and demanding a prescription for a
statin!

Your point may or may not be well taken.  I know a very well credentialed young doc who insists that statins are efficacious in preventing the brain changes that lead to Alzheimer's.  He believes that the anti-inflammatory properties are nothing short of miraculous and that taking the med now  (in his 30's) zeroes out one of the huge worries of aging.  
We cannot be per se  dismissive of interventions simply b/c the corps that market them may be profiteering. I do not take the med and do not want to imagine that I should, but I realize that some compounds, like aspirin, may, on balance, be beneficial.  The problem is separating the truth from the hype.  There is paleo hype as there is Atkins hype, Merck hype, AMA hype, etc.  Rick
