Kris, as you live in Indiana you perhaps should consider a telephone consult
or visit to Doc don who has both training and clinical expertise in just
your type of problems.  I don't think your psychiatrist has a handle on the
situation, especially if he's saying ridiculous things like "going on
Thyroid medication can often make you depressed in and of itself".

Taking antidepressants (not thyroid meds) depresses thyroid function.
