Dumo & Co trail suffers new setback
By Omar Bah
Nov 5, 2003, 10:33

The treason trial involving Dumo Sarho and two others was yesterday
adjourned without hearing due to defence counsel, Mai Fatty’s absence.

Dumo, what will be his fate?
The case couldn’t proceed because the defence was expected to commence the
case yesterday with first accused Ebrima Barrow. But his counsel’s absence
hindered the process.
Mr Fatty, who is said to be out of the country, was also absent at the last
hearing when a ruling on a no case submission which saw the acquittal of
Momodou Marena was passed. The case was therefore adjourned to yesterday to
give him time.
When the case was called yesterday, defence counsels Ousainou Darboe and
Ousman Sillah wanted to proceed with their respective clients case. But DPP
chief Akomaye Agim suggested that Mai Fatty be allowed to return as
technicalities may arise during the course of the case.
Presiding Judge Ahmed Belgore adjourned the case to next Monday and Tuesday
with Fatty expected back before the end of this week.
It could be recalled that the accused face treason charges for the past
three years. Following Justice Belgore’s taking over of the case last year,
the trial sped up. Three of the accused persons have so far been acquitted
and discharged.
Ebrima Barrow, Dumo Sarho and Ebrima Yarboe failed in the no case
submission following the establishment of a prima facie case against them.
