Minutes from the January 24, 1998 VIPACE meeting, that is,
the Visually Impaired Pittsburgh Area Computer Enthusiasts!
The meeting was held at the Hillman Library located on the University of
Pittsburgh campus. Seventeen people were in attendance.
Treasurer's report:
Total money taken in for fiscal year 1997, $462.25
Net money spent for fiscal year 1997 was $318.00
Balance is $144.25
Money spent and received included the pizza party, Christmas party,
adapters, Consumer Provider Counsel dues, raffle money, and money taken in from
1997 VIPACE dues.
New business:
Blindness and Visual Services (BVS) will be holding its annual advisory
meeting in which Pennsylvania citizens can give input to the operations
and services offered by BVS. The meeting will be held on Tuesday February
3rd from 4-6 p.m. at:
BVS, G-10 Kossman Building, 400 Stanwix Street (at Forbes and Stanwix)
downtown Pittsburgh. Their phone number is 412/565-5240.
Also under new business, a voice notetaker was demonstrated which one
could use to record and play short voice messages.
Election results for 1998:
Treasurer is Dave Vitulla,
Secretary is Jim Vaglia,
Program Organizer is Gene Rossi, and
VIPACE Coordinator is Chris Hunsinger.
Meeting demonstration:
Three multimedia World Wide Web technologies were demonstrated:
Microsoft's NetShow, StreamWorks, and RealAudio/RealVidio from Progressive
Networks. Highlights included vidio and an audio broadcast of the space
shuttle docking with the Russian space station Mir, and a demo of an audio
bible on the web.
The next VIPACE meeting will be Friday February 20th. Stay tuned for
further information on next month's meeting.
