My employer the Cook County State's Attorney's Office is looking to hire
someone to assist disabled and injured victims in Traffic Court in
Chicago. Traffic court is at the Daley Center in the Loop. The notice
is below. The deadline for resume submission is October 24.

Title: Victim Witness Specialist
Department: Victim Witness Assistance Program
Grade: This is a grant position / full-time
Location: Traffic Court (69 W. Washington)
Reports to: Director, Victim Witness Assistance Program
Primary Functions: This victim specialist will work directly with
victims, of traffic related crimes, that result in injury or disability
provide them with court orientation, case status updates, transportation
assistance, court escorts, victims rights information and referral to
Social Services, Victim Witness Assistance Programs Compensation unit and
Disability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential:
• Must to able to work flexible hours.
• Maintain current information on cases and assist Assistant State's
Attorneys in scheduling and presenting pre-trial conferences.
• Follow-up contact to ensure victims are kept informed of the progress
of their cases.
• Assist in securing rights and services from other agencies on behalf of
the victims and other information on rights and remedies available to
victims.
• In-person crisis intervention to identify services offered and support
available by community agencies.
• Maintain statistics and provide monthly reports regarding activity to
grant funder.
• Speak to community and civic organizations on victims' issues, the
criminal court system and the Victim Witness Assistance Program.
• Participate in mandatory staff development courses and training.
• Travels to outlying courthouses as needed.
Nonessential:
• Performed other duties and special projects as assigned.
Interactions:
• Interacts directly with victims
• Interacts with State's Attorney's employees
• Access to confidential information.
Qualifications:
The candidate must be empathetic listener with knowledge of criminal
court system. Experience in working with crime victims, have excellent
grammar, organizational and communications skills. Bachelor's degree
preferred in a relevant program (social work, counseling or criminal
justice). Microsoft word and PROMIS experience preferred.
