A better understanding of the condition is definitely warranted. After
getting a full understanding from the current cardiologist, consider
getting another opinion as well just to make sure.
An athlete may have a larger than normal heart which developed through
exercise, and responded like other muscles to become larger and stronger.
On the other hand, an enlarged heart could also be caused by other
conditions which have, for lack of a better description, "stretched" the
heart muscle. In this case, the muscle becomes weaker and less efficient.
More information is certainly warranted.
