Phil, my first thought is that it's not for us to decide whether a
Christian who commits suicide is going to heaven or hell; that's up to
God. But I know that suicidal people are in total anguish and
pain; otherwise, how could they even think of murdering themselves? When
I think of someone who's suicidal, or even of someone who's actually
committed suicide, my heart breaks for them, as I can't imagine that much
pain. I would want to do all I could to help a suicidal person know that
they're loved, though having never been suicidal myself, I don't know how I
would do that. I'd have to rely on God's Spirit to guide me, and I imagine
it would be different with each person. As for those who have committed
suicide, all I can do is pray that God's there on the other side to embrace
them and to show them that they were loved all along, and to weep with them
as they realize that fact, then to bring them into His presence. I don't
know what people's beliefs are about the so-called communion of saints,
who, having run the race and crossed the finish line, pray for those of us
who are still out on the track; but perhaps God gives those who have
committed suicide a ministry of intercession for those people, having been
through it themselves and seeing what a waste it was. Just thinking as I type.
