Yes that's what I was wondering about as well. But then if
you have the maturity of a child but the chronological age of an
adult do you have the right to engage in sex and have fun as many
people do. I can see how parents would be upset especially if
pregnancy is an issue and depending on their moral values.
They used to sterilize people who were developmentally delayed and I
am against that in every way. I think one reason this was done was so
routine rape of these individuals would not be noticed. We have
certainly been in the dark ages with a lot of our thinking on this.
It doesn't seem fair if a parent is the guardian for a woman
with the mind of a girl to have to make a decision about a child who
is conceived. Also I think these girls can be taken advantage of.
It's a thorny problem and I just don't know the answer. I can see how
this would overwhelm a family doing their best to care for a disabled member.
I also see no reason why the developmentally delayed should
be denied exploring their sexuality. I also think saying no could be
a problem for DD and so there is a lot of room for exploitation here.
