Subject: A message from Johnny Winston, Jr. - Madison School Board
Candidate

Dear Friends:

Greetings. My name is Johnny Winston, Jr. and I am a candidate for
Madison
School Board, seat number 4 recently vacated by Ray Allen. I am a long
time
Madison resident who attended Madison schools and graduated from West
High
School in 1986. I have two teenage daughters attending West and the
Work
and Learn Program.

Since graduating high school, I have had a long history working in
education, social and protective services. Currently, I'm a firefighter

with the City of Madison fire department. However, I have worked at
several
schools including Leopold Elementary as a Parent/Community Liaison and
at
West High as an Assistant to the Minority Services Coordinator and Boys
and
Girls Basketball Coach. In addition, I have worked in several positions
in
Madison School and Community Recreation, director of Vera Court
Neighborhood
Center, a Social Service Aide for Dane County Human Services, youth
worker
for the Neighborhood Intervention Program and many other youth services
agencies.

My campaign platform is very simple. It is the following:
. To listen and seek guidance from people who know education programs
best:
our administrators, teachers and students.
. To actively encourage parent involvement.
. To develop and/or strengthen partnerships with the U.W., M.A.T.C., our

business community and agencies working with youth.

Although, this platform seems simple, it addresses many of the needs,
issues
and challenges our students, staff and community face in the Madison
Metropolitan School District. Parent involvement is an important key to

student success. Partnerships may be an answer to solving challenges of

minority student achievement. Listening to our teachers and students
opens
dialogue and reinforces positive relationships.

Sincerely,

Johnny Winston, Jr.
Madison School Board Candidate

P.S. Vote for me on Tuesday February 17th and again on Tuesday April
6th.
Tell your friends and neighbors, too.
