I had this same problem less than a year ago, with WME. I solved the problem
by installing the OS over the top of itself. Evidently it was an OS problem
somewhere, and all other attempts to rectify this problem failed. Of course
after the I did this, the updates were no longer there and had to do that
ritual all over again.....
Hope that sheds some light on the problem.
