Well, the results are in, I am not alone. I received around 40 responses. It seems many are in the same boat...The general consensus was that it goes back to the known factors of food taken in vs food burned (exercise) Also gluten free pastas, breads, flours are much higher in carbs/calories than regular ones. I also could relate to some saying that to make up for the loss of food options (back to the pity party thing) they added more sugary or fattening foods to make up for the loss. 
Many do Atkins, although it can be hard to stick to; a support group for celiacs doing Atkins was mentioned at delphi forums.
Sorry this became lengthy. Think I will try to exercise more and treat the gluten free goodies more as an occasional treat. Thanks so much for all of your responses!! What a great group of people! Jennifer
