Hi everyone,
just to add to Jim Lyles comments - depending on the age of the person
and the severity of the malnutriction, staying Gf might be OK but if your
DR is going to biopsy an adult the damage will still be obvious. In Oz
there is a common message from our Coeliac Society - stay on gluten until
after the biopsy. Blood tests here are not always reliable can give false
positives and negatives - and if the DR advised that you try a GF diet
to see if it makes a person feel better then he has no idea what he is
looking for. Lots of other conditions mimic coeliac symptoms. In children
I was told that the villi can regrow within three days and the whole
process slows down as a person ages and the level of anitbody damage
increases.
As always, its a personal choice - and these comments are from a
layperson too.
Beverley:-)
