On 9 Feb I asked about mild, itermittent, idiopathic stomach pain. I had about a dozen replies, quite few saying yes, I also get this pain and would like to know what causes it... Here are the suggestions (with my comments in brackets). I will follow up the probiotics and L-glutamine and perhaps hydrochloric acid as I know these have helped many people (though my symptoms don't quite match hypochloridia).
Non-functioning gallbladder ? ( I really think this is unlikely in my case with such little pain).
Try probiotics with L-glutamine with each meal (Yes I will try this).
Arthritis? (not in my case).
Sugar (I agree this causes problems but usually IBS type symptoms and I get the pain when I have had no sugar).

Try good fomulation of digestive enzymes (worth trying).

Eating shrimp? (my shrimp allergy causes classic allergic swelling in the mouth not gut problems and I don't eat any shellfish now).

Try hydrochloric acid (will try).

I also get this"kicked in the stomach feeling" at times.. maybe due to difficulty digesting fats or proteins. Enzymes have helped eliminate these pains for me. They might work for you. I take one by a company in Maryland, USA called Bioset --gluten, dairy, egg, soy, potato, corn, nut free and kosher and vegetarian. (This sounds the closest to my symptoms so will try).

Stomach pain was only symptom before diagnosis with diabetes. I encourage you to persist, and think about other avenues. Hepatic? Nephrotic? (I have had recent diabetes tests and liver functioning. I have just seen a nephrologist about a possible kidney problem, about which I will be posting soon, but he did not think this kind of pain was related).

gluten getting in? (No, and the gastro consultant confirmed this) Try homeopat;hic remedy VERATRUM ALB 30C and also l-glutamine capsule and one Probiotics Complex. (see above re probiotics and glutamine).

Problems with dairy, corn (even "citric acid", etc.) or Canola Oil (can't relate pain to dairy or corn, don't eat rapeseed oil).

Colon hydrotherapy (aka colonics?); sounds to me like you may have a lot of toxic build-up (not my scene, and I don't believe in "toxic build-up").

I have same pain with the same apparent lack of predictability. Problem with soy? (this is interesting though my soy intake is quite low).

Many thanks to all who wrote.

Interestingly, I went to an old school reunion supper at the Mansion House in London on Thursday (sorry, just had to get that in - the current Lord Mayor went to my old school and yes, it was VERY grand with a lot of gold goblets and incidentally if anyone else should find themesleves invited there you don't have to worry about gluten-free: they deal with so many foreign dignatories with special/religious diets that GF is a doddle!) and after a late night, lots of food and drink, virtually no sleep etc.. I had NO stomach ache for two days. Obviously my home life is far too dull and my stomach craves port and adrenaline. This lends credence to the idea my stomach might need some extra enzymes, probiotics or acids.. I shall post again when I have conducted my own trial (double-blind and randomised of course!)
