I got 22 responses to my question.  By a 2 to 1 margin, the advice is that
my doctor is correct and I do not need a second opinion.  I makes sense
that maybe only parts of my colon have been damaged, and that his few
samples missed the bad parts.  I think I'll continue GF for a few more
months, to see if the anemia clears up.

BTW, I have never had any gastric symptoms (except for the occult blood)
from gluten: no cramps, diarrhea, greasy stools.  Apparently, I just have
reduced absorption of vitamins and minerals.
