Dear Fellow Members,
My apologies for getting this out a bit late but here are the response
summaries. Thank you so much to all who responded to my question on celiac vs
hiatial hernia. I tried to compile responses from the letters received. Update on my
22 yr-old daughter is that staying to a gf diet, she is getting better,
feeling stronger, dizzy symptoms are not as frequent, and the stomach fullness has
lessened/become almost non-existent. I will be keeping in touch............

**"family members have hiatal hernias as well as reflux, and their symptoms
seem to be primarily reflux and stomach pain related, not anything like
"typical" celiac"

**"during the endoscopy, my doctor not only found that I did have CD, but
that I also have a hiatial hernia."

**"gluten free for almost a year to control CD...hiatial hernia is being
controlled by using Nexium."

**"the "heaviness" in her chest might be from the hiatal hernia, but unless
she has acid reflux they probably won't do anything for it. "
**"the hiatal hernia is not related to Celiac disease.
have also felt a slight hiatal hernia last year, or something so
close, hooked with sensivity to acidic foods, etc. So, in my opinion,
they could be related to CD."

**"suggest she try the diet that worked for me, it's hard to do
meat & fish, veggies, pineapple, water, coffee -- virtually nothing else
also, she may be dehydrated, try pedialyte (gatorade has soy)"
