The National Public Radio show “This American Life” recently featured a
piece by internationally know author and broadcaster Sarah Vowell on the topic of
the publication Sully’s “Living Without” and the large issue of dealing with
the deprivation of living without wheat. It was a lovely radio essay and
touched on the very real feelings of deprivation associated with living without
wheat in a wheat-filled world, and the comfort and support that publications
such as “Living Without” can provide. A broadcast of the show is available for
free via RealAudio at This American Life’s website www.thislife.org. Search
for episode 256, originally broadcast on Jan 9th, 2004, subject “Living Without”
. Ms Vowell’s piece is in ‘Act 2’ of the show.
If you listen to and enjoy this radio essay, please email the producers to
tell them so. Positive feedback can lead to additional coverage of celiac
disease and the gluten-free diet.
Submitted by Marge Rogers for Elise Gorseth, the chairperson of The Healthy
Villi, Greater Boston Celiac/DH Support Group.
