I think wake staff might mean that your overnight attendant stays awake all
night in case you need help. People who work overnight and stay awake are
paid more than those who can sleep during the night - rightly so, but this
is an added expense if you're paying out of pocket.

Kathy Jo - I'll echo the thoughts of many here and encourage you to be
persistant in voicing your desire to live on your own and taking steps to
make that happen!

Questions: Are you out of the place where you want to hurt yourself and do
you have strategies for making sure you don't get to that point next time
you feel depressed? If so, can you talk with your parents about this? The
more you can show that you're taking responsibility for yourself, the
greater the likelihood that people will support you in your desire to live
independently.
