Jodi and Peter,
As far as a stand alone reading machine, there's the old Kurzweil
Reading Edge from the early nineties. There have been plinty of others
that have come along, but only the Reading Edge had the bookedge
scanning, with the glass meeting at the corner or edge of the machine
and the internal camera moved right to the edge. The edge was about a
100 degree curve or angle. That's the only machine I've ever seen that
does that.

Is there a free standing reading machine that you can scan pages into
and
have themread them right away? I know about Kurtzweil and OpenBook, I
was
just thinking it would be nice to have a stand alone machine so that you
can
use the computer at the same time for other applications.
