Project HEALTHY for Seniors: Just a Click Away

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Library of
the Health Sciences-Peoria, the Alliance Library
System, and the Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center are
pleased to announce “Project Healthy,” an exciting and
innovative online health program for senior citizens.
Seniors, health providers, and anyone interested will
be able to enjoy informational, interactive programs
about important health topics while sitting in front
of an Internet accessible computer.

The series of monthly programs will kick off on
Wednesday, September 29 at 10:00 a.m. with the program
“Medical Care is a Partnership.”  Project Coordinator
Tom Peters of TAP Information Services will  host
Roswell Daniels, MD with Lori Reimer, RN and Jean C.
Aldag, PhD for the first session that will focus on
strategies for gathering personal health information,
making decisions about your own healthcare and
communicating with your health providers.

Anyone is welcome to “attend” this free program and no
registration is required. All you need is  a computer
with  an Internet connection and  sound card,and
speakers . To attend  go to
http://www.projecthealthy.org and click the link for
the Healthy online auditorium.  Type your name in the
box and click “Enter”.

The programs will also be recorded and made available
on the website and on CD and cassette for loan from
the library and the talking book center.
The Project Healthy website (www.projecthealthy.org)
also provides information, helpful links and resources
on program topics.

Other upcoming programs include:
October 26 at 10:30 am – “The Aging Eye” with guest
expert Dennis Cioni, RN, BS, COT.
November 12 (time to be announced) – “Managing
Diabetes” with guest expert Tom Dorsch, MD.

The Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center (MITBC),
administered by the Alliance Library System, with
offices in East Peoria and Quincy, provides library
services for anyone unable to read regular print
because of a visual or physical disability. Most users
of the service are elderly. For more information on
the talking book program, call 1-800-426-0709.The UIC
Library of the Health Sciences-Peoria, located on the
University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria
campus, is a regional site of the UIC Library of the
Health Sciences at Chicago. The Library's mission is
to meet the information needs of UIC students, faculty
and staff. The Library contributes to teaching,
research, and clinical service at UIC by acquiring,
organizing, and archiving information and by providing
expert staff, access to information sources in all
formats, and instruction in the retrieval and use of
information. The Library also extends information
services to the larger community through an active
outreach initiative and  cooperative interlibrary loan
programs. The Library is a full member of the NN/LM
Greater Midwest Region and promotes the programs of
the National Library of Medicine.
