While State Services for the Blind closed The STORE because of state
budget cuts, one new business for blind and visually impaired
customers has just opened, and two others are expected to open later
this month. All three stores are in St. Paul.

The Minnesota Low Vision Store opened September 3 at 1956
University, which in on the southeast corner of University and
Prior. The phone number is 651-489-4194. Two other stores -- Low
Vision Store and Better Vision -- are expected to open September 15
at 2200 University Avenue West, # 180. The phone number for Better
Vision is 1-800-871-8780.

Allied Technologies Inc. in Maple Grove is another local source for
some of the items The STORE sold such as magnifiers, sunglasses,
clocks and watches, lamps, cassette players, writing aids, kitchen
and telephone aids, and other items. They are located at 11440
Lakeland Drive, Suite 101, and their phone numbers are 763-425-8660
and 1-800-267-5350.

For contact information on stores that sell these products in other
parts of the country, go to the SSB website at
www.mnwfc.org/ssb/index.php
