In case anyone would like to read the judge's ruling, it is available in
a reportedly "accessible" pdf format at:
http://www.dcd.uscourts.gov/opinions/2006/Robertson/2002-CV-0864~12:56:1~11-28-2006-a.pdf

>>> "Gregory J. Rosmaita" <[log in to unmask]> 11/29/06 3:30 PM >>>
i don't know how widely this has been publicized, either in the
mainstream press or on emailing lists, but i thought the following
would be of great interest to all subscribed to this list.. this
news synopsis was culled from:
i will post the web address of the ruling, when it is published
online, and if it is only available in PDF (like most court
documents), then i will send a text version to the list...

Judge Rules Money Unfair To The Blind
November 28, 2006 8:55 p.m. EST

Megan Shannon - All Headline News Staff Writer

(AHN) - A federal judge ruled that US currency is unfair to the blind
and should be changed in a way that blind people can distinguish
between denominations.

Judge James Robertson said the US Department of Treasury is breaking
the law in his ruling on a suit by the American Council of the Blind.
He ordered the agency to looking into ways for the visually impaired
to tell the bills apart within the next 30 days.

He said the Rehabilitation Act guarantees "meaningful access," which
is not being provided by the current system. He recommended creating
different sized bills or punching holes in the paper money.

Robertson said this would not be an undue burden for the agency. The
Treasury Department had no comment.
