I have just replaced a CMOS battery on an AST computer about 7 years old, a
Pentium 133 with Win 98SE on it. I use it as a backup medium for important
files so I can keep working if my new computer gets wonky. Everything is
working the way it was except my CD Rom drive has not been detected. Instead
of showing in the CMOS setting as "Secondary Ide Master 40X CD Rom" there is
nothing there. It is set to automatically detect but hasn't. Before taking
off the very stubborn case again, I would like to know if this is a separate
problem such as a loose connection or has something to do with the battery.
Can this be restored by changing the CMOS setting and how would I do that or
is the CD Rom drive gone? The light goes on and the CD spins but Windows
can't find the drive.
