No -- not if one is simply maintaining one's weight (body fat percentage to
be more precise).  If that is the situation, I do not believe carbs are
necessary because the body can make what it needs from extra protein.  If however one
is trying to lose body fat and is experiencing stalls on low carb, I think it
may help some people to have a carb-up. The idea is to sort of "trick" the
body. The body does not want to lose bodyfat -- especially when one is close to
goal like me, or if one has a slow metabolism or has yo-yo dieted.   This
carb-up or "reversal diet" as Atkins called it may not work for everyone -- but
then, nothing works for everyone.
