The perception of demons and demonology is a denominational thing. Some see a demon behind every bush, every sniffle, etc. Some ignore them completely to their own peril. My only warning is to remember the Seven Sons of Sceva in Acts 19. They tried to toss out demons "in the Name of the JESUS whom Paul preaches" They got a response, alright, but not the one they were expecting. The demons set upon them, shouting (as I like to paraphrase) "JESUS we know, and Paul we've heard of, but who the hell are you?", ripping and tearing them up. Christians get obsessed with demonology sometimes because it smacks of supernatural powers yet has something to do with JESUS, so it must be okay. But it's dangerous business. John wrote in one of his letters (1 John 4:4) "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." That is the key, I think as Believers. Bring JESUS into the situation and into the heart of everyone you can. The issue isn't driving demons out, but bringing the Light and Love of JESUS in.

Steph,
Not long ago I was praying with a person and trying to discover the lie that
was in this person's memory and while looking at this memory event, a demon
manifested and spoke through their voice. I told him to go in the name of
Jesus and attempted to turn him over to the Lord Jesus Christ and commanded
him to go where the True Lord Jesus Christ wanted him to go. He said No, we
are not leaving. I could have backed up and spent a little time finding out
why this demon, and the others with him, had a right to be there which in
turn would have exposed the lie. Instead, I asked the person if they heard
the exchange I just had with the demon. They said yes. I said, do you want
these demons in your life or do you want them gone. They said, I want them
all out of my life. I led this person in a short prayer and they left.
Why? That person had more authority over demons in their own life than I
did. As I said, I could have eventually found out why they thought they had
a right to be there and to stay there in this person's life and then they
would have left. Instead, they were dispatched much quicker by the person
sending them away than they would have otherwise.
Phil.
