World Institute on Disability Executive Director Position:  The World
Institute on Disability is a non-profit public policy, research and
training organization based in Oakland, CA.  WID has operated
significant programs at the international, national and regional levels
for 20 years, and its Board and staff are predominantly persons with
disabilities.  The individual is responsible for the overall management
and development of the organization. He/she reports directly to the WID
Board of Directors.  This person provides leadership with public,
private and governmental agencies, national and international
organizations, and political leaders.  He/she is a strong manager who is
capable of translating Board policy into operational objectives and
providing guidance and mentoring to a 25-person staff. The Executive
Director assists the Board of Directors in policy adoption and
maintenance and evaluation of operational programs at WID and serves as
WID's spokesperson and liaison to other organizations.

 

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

*       Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree preferred 
*       Experience as the number one or two person running a large
non-profit organization; good management/supervisory skills 
*       Demonstrable expertise in program development and strategic
planning 
*       Proven success in fundraising 
*       Considerable expertise with disability policy analysis 
*       Significant experience within the disability movement 
*       Experience with financial oversight (basic accounting concepts,
program budgeting, communicating financial information) for at least a
1-2 million dollar agency budget 
*       Excellent writing and communication skills
