Walt,
For whatever it's worth, the auto tuner will not work on that band even
after the mod is done. So you'll need an external tuner or resonant
antenna. From what I've heard, Kenwood has no plans to open up this band
via firmware upgrade, so if you want it you'll have to perform surgery.
I've heard it refered to as a jumper, a diode, or a resistor. In any
event, it's a surface mount component which some people find tricky to work
on.
