I agree with Terry, the environment seen by a digital camera is going to be
much more varriable than that seen by a scanner.  Even with scanners,
just think how often you need sighted help to fiddle with contrast etc to get
a good OCR.

I think there will need to be a software process which either makes adjustments
to the camera's focus and/or apature etc. or combines several saptures to
get an image which can be OCR'd.

I asked the PRD-2 manufacturers about such problems along with
the needs for exact focus, field size, and stability to get a clean scann
and so far have no replies.

It will probably happen, maybe fairly soon, but I bet it won't
be the panacia some hope it will.

there aren't any miracles anyhow, just incremental changes, sometimes for
the better.
