First make sure there no programs running in the background of windows by closing all the other programs except explorer then try running scandisk and defrag this should do it

Another way is to run scan disk in ms dos mode while windows boots by pressing the F5 key the screen windows is starting up apperars then type scan disk.
 That should solve your problem
