I think the doctor is trying to err on the side of caution rather than
allowing something to go wrong and causing more damage.  Ninety percent is
good, but it's far from 100%.  That ten percent is enough to do real damage
if Ben does too much too soon.  That would mean not only not home for
Christmas but damage that might not heal for a very long time if at all.  I
know it's easy for me to talk but would rather see the doctor siding with
caution and waiting as late as Christmas Eve to let Ben go rather than
letting him do too much too soon and do irreparable harm.
