Thank you so much for this post. I have been depressed all my life, and
never knew why. I am see an MD that does vitamin therapy, and she also has
CD. Thank God for her. I am going to get the book you recommended and
make my family read it. They always thought I could get over it.

I agree completely in regard to your findings. For 45 years I had been
diagnosed
with various psychological problems and
had been on anti depressants and also chemical restraints.

Once the Celiac Disease was identified and I went on a Gluten free diet the
seizures stopped immediately.

The psych problems diminished considerably over a few months as a
naturopathic doctor in CT. prescribed 'Medipro" by Thorne Research -- a
powder which I prepare in a blender each day into a milkshake with fruit to
sweeten it -- usually palm dates and a banana.

The Medipro is a partially metabolized protein and vitamin powder that is
absorbed under the tongue and in the stomach -- not by the villi in the
small intestines that are decimated by gluten.

I hope that this info. will help your sblings get back to health.

I firmly believe that there are alot of people out there who are sufferring
from misdiagnosed effects of chemical imbalances.

I don't know what I would do without vitamin supplements!

My gums bled just from brushing my teeth, and my old dentist claimed that I
could "toughen" them if I only flossed regularly. Flossing made my mouth so
raw that I could barely eat soup after a week. A new, more savvy and
sympathetic dentist suggested that I take 1500 mg of time-release vitamin
C, and within a few days, I could floss without bleeding! If I run out of
pills even for a couple of days (and they are not available everywhere) my
mouth bleeds again.

I also take extra B vitamins, or I get totally without energy. My multi-
vitamin seems to have less apparent impact, but I take it faithfully too.

I still don't have the stamina and well-being I see in my colleagues at
work, and suspect that oral supplements are not all getting where they need
to be. I have other digestive issues aside from CD. I am trying to get more
attention from my internist, but he sees how much better I am now than I
used to be, and is reluctant to send me around to the specialists who could
help me with my nutritional problems. I think he feels that I am doing
pretty well for a 60 year old woman. My take is that while I am doing
better than I was when I was 20 (and really sick), I deserve to do as well
as I can.

Thanks for your post! Vitamins are wonderful.

My mental health & mood also greatly improved when I started the GF diet
in April of 2001. But, unfortunately it took a turn for the worse again
the following fall. Then it got better in March of 2002, then worse that
September. Then better in February of 2003. When I again started
showing signs of depression a few weeks ago, my husband commented, "Don't
you remember? You get like this every year about this time." DUH! I
had always thought it was just holiday blues. But, it's actually SAD --
seasonal affective disorder. I read a book about how to beat it and
other mild depressive disorders. I thought it would involve costly light
boxes, supplements & such. It is actually very simple, affordable & easy
to fix. The results come after only a day or two of application. The
program is explained in a very good book, WHEN YOUR BODY GETS THE BLUES
by Marie-Annette Brown, and Jo Robinson. This is all it takes:
(1) Increasing light exposure: Spend 20 minutes outdoors, RAIN OR SHINE
five times a week. If it's raining, carry a clear vinyl umbrella so the
out door light can get to your eyes. Also increasing indoor lighting as
much as possible, by opening shades, removing heavy curtains, using extra
bright flourescent lighting, etc.
(2) 20 minutes of mild aerobic exercise also five times a week. (Most
people combine the outdoors light exposure with the exercise.)
(3) Stress formula B complex vitamins, vitamin D3 and selenium.

This formula was developed by a nurse practicioner in Seattle,
Washington, the SAD capital of the world. It was proven effective in a
placebo control study. All the participants increased light exposure,
did the exercise, but the control group took a placebo supplement. All
participants improved, but the test group that took the real vitamins
improved significantly higher than the placebo group, proving the value
in supplements in improving mood.

I was already doing regular aerobic exercise and taking sufficient
supplements. I was still quite blue. When I took the time to go
outdoors for 20 a day, I enjoyed an almost instant relief from SAD. I
never expected such quick relief! I wish I'd tried this many years ago!
