To Mr. Sullivan,
I am amazed at your challenge to the necessity of getting HR 3684 passed as
it is written today.
This bill is not just about celiac disease. It is about all of those that are
affected by the top allergens listed. This is a great step forward for all of
us and it should not be challenged at this late date.
Do you not realize how slow the government works on these types of issues?
Do you realize how long it has taken to get this bill this far for passage?
Are you not aware that if it does not pass there is not even the protection
of having WHEAT identified?
Isn't it better to have the requirement to have WHEAT identified on the
labels than as the labels are today?
Please help get this bill passed.
Do not promote asking for more to be added to the bill at this time. We are
so very close to having the manufacturers required to at least identify WHEAT
on their labels.
As it is, changes to the labels will not be required to go into effect until
2006. If this is not passed at this time, it will take many more years to even
get the attention of someone to sponsor a new bill for changing the labeling
laws.
I hope everyone will be grateful for what work has already been accomplished
to provide this protection, no matter who has done it, and again, it is not
just for the Celiac Community.
Nancy
