The studies shown do not show a free radical effect by gliadin, but
rather that immune cells release free radicals as part of inflammation.

These studies serve to bolster the advice to be gluten free if you have
celiac disease. The study about gliadin affecting epithelial cells was
done in caco-2 cells, which is a tumor cell line. The caco-2 cell line
studies are generally considered useful, but a few other cell lines
should be tested before drawing conclusions of gliadins likely in vivo
effects.
