The Madison Cafe (on 9th Ave. between 33rd and 34th) has amazing lunches, but the only seating is outdoors in a tiny little garden.  It's nice for warm days, and the owner/chef always lets you know what's in the food.  Further up 9th Ave is Amazonia, which often has pureed vegetable soups -- never had a problem there.<<
