Subjectivism stands in contrast to Plato, rationalism, and all derivatives
including materialism and realism. This group is a place to debate against
these, favoring subjectivism of course, and is also a place for
subjectivists to share thoughts.
A subjectivist believes objects in our environment exist only because we
think they do. This does not mean a person can simply believe anything and
make it true. The universe is like a bowl of soup. It is up to us to use our
minds, construct meanings, and create the intellectual objects we need.
Rationalism, materialism, and realism discount individual perception and
interpretation, including the rights to have an opinion, disagree, and
challenge. What is right is right, the realist will say, regardless what you
think, and what exists, exists. Who in our society has the privilege to say
what is right, what is real, what exists, and what is true? By the time we
reduce, analyze, and discuss, causal factors are so subjective, there is no
clear statement what is true and what is real. It is idealism to think any
truth or standard exists, other than what we ourselves create, and it is
certainly idealism to think people should live up to such standards.
Of course religiously inclined people profess objective reality, stating
things are as god created. But atheists who espouse materialism do not
appreciate centuries of debate since Plato, and fail to recognize the
logical inconsistency of having a creation without a creator.
