This is very interesting to me. I've been a long distance runner off and on
since middle school. Lately, it definitely has been more off than on. I
very much would like to get back into training.
I've never run much while eating paleo, so I'm interested to see how it will
affect my training. One interesting thing for me is that I have run 2
marathons. The first one I ran was while I was in college. College food
for me was oatmeal, cereal, bread, rice, and beans. Rarely did I ever eat
meat. I had a very difficult time on my long runs as they were getting
longer and longer. Many digestive issues. My 2nd marathon was while I was
living with my boyfriends' parents. I definitely wasn't eating paleo;
however, I ate WAY more meat and greasy foods. I also discovered that
carbo-loading using rice rather than bread/pasta agreed with my tummy much
better. My 2nd marathon was much more successful than my first.
However, I'm not too sure that I want to run a marathon again. I find that
I enjoy the 10K to 1/2 marathon way better than the marathon. I've read
somewhere that the human body was really only designed to run about 20
miles. This seems to agree with my experience.
