Two Gambian Nationals died in a Nigerian plane crash which left 117
people death, The ALLGAMBIAN online Newspaper can reveal. The deaths were
identified as Sheiff Conteh, a manger at Gambia's Trust Bank and one
Mr.Njie whose first name could not be established at the time of piecing
this story together.
The passengers were said to have been on board a Bellview Airlines flight
210, which crashed in Nigeria, killing all of them. Mr.Conteh, who was
on an official mission reportedly met his death, which sent a shocking
wave to The Gambia Community and the entire world. Rescue teams are still
said be searching for the bodies who were scattered all over the scene
area.
The news of Conteh's death was relayed to The ALLGAMBIAN by a family
member residing here in the US. However, the said family who was in a
state of tears at the time of talking to this reporter said hopes that
Conteh might have been one of the surviors was dashed away following
reports that all the passengers on board Bellview Airlines died during
the crash. "It is just devastating. I'm at a lost of words and I cannot
believe it." She told The AllGambian.
Meanwhile, President Obsanjo has declared three days national mourning for
the deaths.
