Alfredo,
Who of us is to say that he did not jump up and down on it a few times?
It may also be a consequence of trade specialization that the a/c guy
may have never in his life thought about a roof structure.
Not to say that he should not have.... which leads to the "dumb" part of
the equation.
In my experience trade specialization is more predominant in urban
environments than in rural.
As to the prevalence of dumbness, it only takes a truck & a cell phone
to be a contractor.
I'm curious, though, if the a/c guy was licensed. In NY, at least, one
needs to have a license to work legally on residential structures.
There is also the situation that the PI may have made the costly
corrections without giving the a/c guy the opportunity to investigate
the situation beforehand.
