Hi Walt,

You should buy the cable at the time you get the radio unless someone knows a real good price somewhere.

As for the software, that is free and can be downloaded from the kenwood site.  I don't recall the directions to the exact url, but I did download it a few
weeks back and had no trouble finding it.
